Never really had luck, couldn’t ever figure out / How to love, how to love
Been on repeat for the past few hours mostly cause of the smooth vocals. Regardless of whoever sings it, this song seems to always be mesmerizing and raw.
More Danish music.
My favorite line:
“Fordi du tager mig tættere på himlen.”
Because you bring me closer to heaven.
J-R&B throwback and new songs. JAY’ED - Sunlight.
I love this song. It’s about cities. Sorta. And hope. Mostly hope. Thanks to EC for translating this for me :D
This song imagery kinda reminds me of the slide I did for Awaken Humanity.
YES! FINALLY! I found this freaking song after looking around forever. Comatose by Clara C performed at Muirstock 2012. I love the jazzy blues feel of the song. I’ve been in an R&B mood lately and have been revisit my old R&B J-Pop stuff along with some more recent J-Pop acts. Dang, this was my music phase 6 years ago. So old.
WATCH THIS! Home:Word by Magnetic North, my high school friend’s cousin’s hip hop band. I love how they’re a band that really speaks into the Asian American identity in terms of school, success, entertainment industry, and not letting these defined stereotypes become our false identities.
I really love this song about discovering home and who the self really is. I think this is my own journey right now in really discovering myself and where home is or what it means to me. I really do feel like Copenhagen will be where I find these two. And the video! So touching through the scenes and story. It really hits the heart and homesickness for family, especially the scenes with the mother-daughter relationship. Love you, Mom and Dad, for all the hard work you’ve done to put me through college, and just the love you show, despite the times I forget to Skype or video chat or even seem to neglect or acknowledge your hard work.
I Gotta get get gotta gotta get home
Hadn’t thought it possible
But I’ve forgotten my own road
Thought I was so unstoppable
Forgot my ego
Then it topple down like dominoes
A prodigal soul
But now I’m running no more
Took out my airbags
Used to hate starin at myself, now I stare back
momma push my hair back, tell me a secret
You never know home baby girl till you leave it.
Used to think home was a physical place
A space where you live and you lay.
Your head to rest and wake up on a typical day.
An address for you to get deliveries made
But I’m home sick though
In my own zipcode
Wissful zoom in like a fish in a fish bowl
Wishful what am I searching for
I’m looking for a place where I don’t search no more
Day 17 – A song that you hear often on the radio
Give Me Everything, Pitbull
Reach for the stars / And if you don’t grab em, at least you’re on top of the world
A song I hear often on the radio; I don’t love it but I don’t hate it. It’s not a song I would normally listen to, but if there’s nothing better playing on my other stations, then I can settle for this. I can stand this a lot more than Party Rock Anthem.
Day 16 – A song that you used to love but now hate
Grenade, Bruno Mars
I’d catch a grenade for ya / Throw my hand on a blade for ya / I’d jump in front of a train for ya
Actually, this applies to all of his songs that I’ve listened to: Grenade, Just the Way You Are, Talking to the Moon, Today My Life Begins. My love for them has never gone past two weeks or so. I don’t know, I guess his lyrics are nice and so is his voice, but it’s a but saccharine. In really small doses, t’s nice, but take too much and it becomes sickening. Like Extraordinary Desserts: amazing and exotic, but try and eat the whole thing and you end up being sick to your stomach with sugar and developing at sugar headache.
Day 15 – A song that describes you
Boku wa Kuma, Utada Hikaru
This was definitely a challenge. It took forever to find a decent song that I think fits me, but I think I found it. Boku wa kuma. I am a bear. Guess it pays homage to my nickname, and that inner kid in me, since this song was written specifically for a kid’s TV show in Japan. Yep.
Day 14 – A song that no one would expect you to love
Top of the World, The Cateracs feat, Dev
Im your bonnie, you’re my clyde / I’ll be your “ride or die” / Tell me where you want to go
This was definitely one of my favorite songs last summer. I love electro-hop with their fusion of synthesizers and hard-hitting bass, though sadly it’s rather difficult to find this kind of music. Actually, I really love party music with good beats and bass down low, which is ironic because I don’t actually party or anything like that. Although I do want to go to a club just for the experience (it’s on my bucket list). But it’s still good to listen to, especially with the bass turned up in the car or in live performances.
This is my favorite song from them—it has good beats and the lyrics are definitely a LOT less vulgar and sexual than their other songs. Or maybe because it features Dev; I really like her voice and prefer to listen to her over the Cataracs themselves. I really want to see the Cataracs perform at SD, but I have a feeling that none of my friends are gonna want to see them. Poops.
Day 13 – A song that is a guilty pleasure
Baby (Acoustic), Justin Bieber
Said ‘there’s another,’ and looked right in my eyes / My first love broke my heart for the first time / And I was like baby, baby, baby, oh
Shameful guilty confession #2: I love this song, well mostly just the acoustic version. Justin Bieber is actually quite a good singer/guitarist. But. I still can’t stand his voice. It is way too high-pitched even for his age. Like maybe if he were to mature a little more and re-record this song, I will definitely love it. But for now, it will stay on my secretly-played list. I can’t believe that Cody Simpson is three years younger and has a deeper voice than Bieber. I can’t believe that he’s exactly two years younger than me. I still can’t believe we share the same birthday along with Kesha. With Kesha. The horror. The things she probably does on her birthday.
